Anita Simmelhag
Anita was born in Africa and moved to Australia to become an Australian Citizen in 1960. She then moved to Tasmania from the Blue Mountains NSW in 2002.
Strongly influenced by the natural enviroment, Anita paints in her small garden studio in Lauderdale, Tasmania. She has been painting for four years and has attended Adult Education classes under the professional guidance of well known artist, Chantale Delrue.
Anita uses colour in a layering technique and has great admiration for John Gould's talent.
She always wanted to paint but it wasn't until after being involved in a serious motor accident and nearly losing her sight did she persue her passion. After many hours of rehabilitation in hospital and gazing out of her window did she appreciate the changing light of Tasmania's dramatic seasons. The "earthy" colours of our landscape and the fascinating wildlife are wonderful sources of motivation.
Anita was awarded First Prize at the Adult Education "Not Yet Famous" Art Exhibition in 2009.
