A Letter From Penny...
Tasmania has been my home for four years now and I have come to realize how many different variations of landscape, flora and fauna there are.
Growing up in the Pilbara of Western Australia and being surrounded by vibrant red earth and hot black and red rocks covered in indigenous art on
the Burrup Penninsula, to discovering the moss and lichen covered paths and stones here in Tasmania. The variety of colour is astounding and often
mesmerizing.
As I have always loved form and shape, I decided to try flameworking, where I get to heat, melt and form glass beads and objects using a flame generated
by a burner or torch. Fired in a digital kiln to give the glass a longer life and lustre.
Flameworking gives me the chance to use the colours of my surroundings and the chance to bring my interpretation of the different elements of nature
that most people walk by every day. As each piece that I create is totally handmade, no two pieces are alike, and as there are so many wonderful
things to create no two designs will be the same. When seeing a necklace or bracelet that I have created, you get to wear a part of our wonderful country
no matter where you have come from.
I hope that my jewellery gives as much pleasure to you wearing it as it did to
me when I created it.
